The National Comedy Festival: Adrenaline Rush & All

Every comedian has a record of hilarious bits and quips. This weekend’s headliner, Bert Kreischer, is well known for one in particular. It’s a quote that especially resonates with personalities like mine.

“If there’s an adrenaline rush, I will find it; if there’s an anxiety attack, I will have it.”

Case and point, my son was recently debating some travel logistics for his girlfriend and I suggested he consider a certain alternative plan that could have been more favorable to the family. It was arguably a course of action that he knew could possibly work—albeit strategically complicated and aggressive. He thought about my proposal—knowing I had come up with a creative solution while searching his brain for a counter argument that kept peace on the homefront. He shot me down simply with: “Most people don’t do things as crazy as we do, mom.”

The adrenaline. The anxiety. I can’t operate in any other way sometimes. Maybe oftentimes.

I get Bert Kreischer. And I can’t wait to see him on Saturday.
