Spending Time with the Lake-Loving Jesus

If you’ve read the Gospels, you know that Jesus loved the lake life. In all four Gospel accounts, we see Jesus spending much of his ministry on the shoreline of the Sea of Galilee or even on that lake itself. Of course, in each of these scenes, Jesus isn’t just chilling by the beach, getting some alone time to himself. No, Jesus loves the lake life because he loves the people on and around it. With that in mind, I’ve selected 7 different readings from the Gospels that record a number of the memorable moments of Jesus’ lake life. With each reading, I’ve got a few questions to facilitate your meditation and application of the reading in a way that (I hope) will help you recognize the presence of Jesus in your life too.

So if you’re loving the lake life this week, let me encourage you to begin the next several mornings by taking that freshly brewed cup of coffee down to the dock and settling into that slightly wobbly, weathered Adirondack chair. Pull out your Bible (or app) and start your day on the lake with the ultimate lover of lake life, the Lord Jesus!

Day 1: Jesus Calls His Disciples (Luke 5:1-11)

In verse 5, Simon suggests that, at least in this instance, he knows better than Jesus. Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you presumed to know better than God?

In verses 6 & 7, Simon learns that Jesus knows what he’s doing. How has Jesus orchestrated events in your life to lovingly show you that he really does know best?

What are some things Jesus might be calling you to “leave behind” to fully follow him?

Day 2: Jesus Calms the Storm (Mark 4:35-41)

Even though Jesus is right there with them, his disciples are terrified. Have you ever found yourself in a “storm” of some kind, forgetting that Jesus was with you?

Day 3: Jesus Raises a Little Girl (Mark 5:21-43)

Day 4: Jesus Heals a Disabled Man (Matthew 9:1-7)

Day 5: Jesus Walks on Water (Matthew 14:22-33)

Day 6: Jesus Feeds a Huge Crowd Near the Shore (Matthew 15:29-39)

Day 7: Jesus Serves Breakfast on the Beach (John 21:1-17)
